Having returned to the (German?) ‘classical’ tradition with the Brahms Violin Concerto; this week (to coincide with the Crwth Coull Quartet concert) we examine three works by the founding masters of that tradition: string quartets by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven.
After an overview of all three pieces – Haydn Op. 76 No. 2 in d (The Fifths), Mozart K. 458 in B-flat (The Hunt) and Beethoven Op. 132 in a – we will discuss the Mozart quartet in some detail.
