Mozart Quintet for piano and wind instruments

This term, as you might gather from the voting list on the left, our main focus will be on the human voice with orchestra or chamber ensemble. But, to start the new session, we’ll examine two non-vocal works that will appear in the Crwth chamber concert series on the 17th January:

In 1784 Mozart wrote to his father, Leopold, that the performance of his new quintet for oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon and piano had “brought extraordinary applause” and added, “I myself hold it to be the best thing I have yet written.”

At a slightly (??!) different level – while I wouldn’t entirely echo Mozart’s words as far my clarinet sonata is concerned – it is a piece that I’m rather fond of and hope very much that you’ll enjoy.
