The cello concerto of Witold Lutosławski is, together with such works as the Berg violin concerto, a twentieth century composition that has achieved a high degree of both critical and popular acclaim. The concerto is pure theatre: the soloist travels from the indifferente opening, through great trials and vissicitudes, to arrive in truimph at the final pages.
